Cinnamon French Toast Sticks

french toast sticks syrup

Homemade French Toast Sticks are super easy to make and they freeze very well!

My kids love them and they are a good to go breakfast, minus the syrup, but who needs syrup when these are yummy delicious without it! They freeze extremely well and only takes a minute, literally, to heat them up! I use 2 loaves of Texas Toast each time I make these!

Okay, you can use any thick sliced bread but I love to use Texas Toast. It’s thick and easy to work with. I have 4 hungry kids so I make a bunch and freeze them for a fast healthy breakfast. I buy 2 loaves of Texas toast. I also make my own Vanilla Extract!

A really simple way to cut the bread into strips is by using a pizza cutter! SOOO much faster than using a knife!

Once you have all of the bread cut up it’s time to mix the other ingredients. There’s usually about 12 slices of bread in each bag so this recipe is for 24 slices of bread. Below I’ll add the ingredient list and how much of what to use for a small or large batch.

Beat your eggs and add milk & vanilla extract, set aside. Melt the butter and add the cinnamon & sugar. This step is important because if you’ve ever tried to mix Cinnamon into liquids you know it’s about impossible! I’ve found that if I mix it with the butter first it mixes much easier. Let the butter cool before adding it to the egg/milk mixture.

Preheat your oven to 350* and grease or spray the pan with cooking spray.

Take each piece of bread and dunk it in the egg mix. I’ve seen where some people say to leave it soak for 10 seconds or so but I find by doing that it just makes the bread real mushy. I dunk mine for a second or two and then put them on the baking sheet.

Bake about 12-15 each side for a nice golden brown color. Every oven varies so it may take a few minutes longer. I just set my timer for 10 min and then keep an eye on it.

Time to go in the oven!

Once they are done I immediately remove them from the baking sheet and put them on a wire rack to cool. Then I’ll put the wire rack in the freezer to freeze them. Once they are frozen, I put them in gallon freezer bags. These don’t last long in my house 🙂 They are delicious even without maple syrup! Don’t they look yummy!

INGREDIENTS

  • 24 slices or 2 loaves of Texas Toast, sliced in thirds
  • 9 eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups milk
  • 3 tbsp butter, melted
  • 3 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 tsp Cinnamon
  • 1 1/2 tsp Sugar (optional, I don’t add this anymore and the kids can’t tell the difference)

If you want to make a lot less than I do you can cut down the recipe a bit like this…

INGREDIENTS

  • 8 slices of bread
  • 3 eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 tbsp butter, melted
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp Cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp Sugar

I hope you and/or your kiddos enjoy the French Toast Sticks!
